Demerol
Demerol is a prescription painkiller medication that is similar to drugs like morphine and is prescribed for the treatment of moderate or serious pain. The drug comes in a pill or liquid form and is taken orally. Individuals who are taking this drug for legitimate medical conditions and those who are taking it without a prescription have been known to abuse the drug because of its mood altering qualities and pain relieving capabilities. People often feel euphoria as the drug triggers the brains pleasure center.
Demerol is an addictive drug that leads individuals to become physically tolerant of the drug, thus requiring them to take additional doses of the medication and eventually becoming dependent on the drug. The drug effects individuals on both a mental and physical level.
Some of the common side effects of Demerol are sedation, nausea, disorientation, dry mouth, dizziness, lowered blood pressure, shallow breathing, itchiness, sweating, constipation, and skin rash . Some more severe side effects of Demerol can include respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest, hallucinations and severe convulsions.
Demerol withdrawal symptoms are usually seen after prolonged use of the drug and can last anywhere from hour from the last does, to several weeks, depending on the body’s dependency on the drug. Symptoms of withdrawal can include anxiety, depression, fever, sweating, muscle cramps and/or bone pain, sleep difficulties (insomnia), nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
