Crystal Methamphetamine is most often produced with a combination of (what used to be) over the counter drugs like Ephedrine, which is found in many sinus and allergy medications, and hydriotic acid, are now stringently controlled within the United States.
According to the statistics shown from the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse that was conducted in 1996, an estimated 4.9 million people (2.3 percent of the population) have tried meth at some time in their lives. In 1994, the estimate was 3.8 million (1.8 percent), and in 1995 it was 4.7 million (2.2 percent). Additionally, information has been collected through agencies showing that methamphetamine related emergency room visits have dramatically increased in most recent years.
