Heroin Withdrawal
Heroin is not only one of the most addictive drugs on the street today, that renders individuals psychologically and physically addicted, but also one that carries the most difficult physical withdrawal symptoms. Each individual suffering from Heroin addiction will experince differing degrees of withdrawal depending upon the duration and intensity of heroin abuse. The withdrawal symptoms for heroin addiction can begin in as early as 6 hours from the last dose of the drug. Many of the symptoms of withdrawal will subside within 48 to 72 hours of onset of withdrawal effects.
The effects or symptoms of heroin withdrawal include: an overall feeling of sickness (feel like you have the flu), nausea, vomitting, diarrhea, chills, tremors, lack of appetite, runny nose and watery eyes, muscle and stomach pain, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and irratability.
In the case of withdrawal in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation treatment center, those suffering from heroin addiction will sometimes participate in a withdrawal and detoxification program that is medically supervised to ensure their safety during this time.
